Unlike previous MPCs, which were controllers for the MPC DAW software running on your computer, the MPC X is a standalone unit, essentially running on it's own embedded OS via built-in multi-core processor, with a 16GB internal drive and 2GB RAM. This provides a nice solution for running Akai’s latest 2.2 MPC software natively, missing from the standalone OS version are no external VST/AU plugins can be loaded in standalone mode and the hardware is limited to eight stereo tracks of audio, but most of the key functionality remains.
This multi-view system can be a bit bewildering initially, but once we teach you the structure and the places you need to be, you can work quickly and flow thru your production like any other MPC.
